Secrets of a Family Album

I picked up this one at my favourite church bazaar just before Christmas and I loved it!  The story begins with Mattie, a mother of 3 grown children, preparing for the family Christmas dinner.  As she makes her list her mind wanders and as a result we are introduced to the other family members and their circumstances.  The oldest daughter, Lily, is married and living in London with her husband, Art.  Next comes Marie, a single mother of three young children.  Marie works and relies on Mattie for childcare since the mysterious departure of her husband years earlier.  Rory, the youngest, lives in Paris with his girlfriend and is struggling with her desire for children and his fear of commitment.  As they gather for Christmas, old issues come up, and over the course of the following year, all is resolved.  I enjoyed Isla Dewar's writing style and her unique ability to let the reader into the character's thoughts....I will be adding her to my list of favourite authors!. . . .
